Neighborhood Watch

What is Neighborhood Watch?
Neighborhood Watch focuses on informing the community how to discourage, deter and prevent crimes such as burglary, auto theft, car break-ins, and personal crimes which often occur in or near homes. Issues such as vandalism, graffiti, drug dealing and gang activity are also addressed when applicable.
The San Jose Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit has provided NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH presentations to neighborhood groups for nearly 25 years. Although crime trends have changed since the 1970's, the basic principle behind NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH remains the same; to bring communities together with the police to achieve the common goal of preventing crime.
How does it work?
A SJPD Crime Prevention Specialist comes our to present at a neighborhood watch meeting. WGNA is currently hosting these on a Monday or Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM, lasting approximately 2 hours.
Ideally at least 20% of the households of the street(s) you choose will participate in the meeting for the program to have a strong impact in your community. The venue we usually use holds a maximum of 200 people, so an area of up to 100 homes can be invited (a block or two works well). A minimum of 10 homes must be represented in order for the meeting to take place.
Learn more about what is covered at meeting here.
How does WGNA help?
- Coordinate with SJPD Crime Prevention for a meeting date.
- Arrange a facility for your meeting.
- Print flyers.
- Help you go door to door to pass the flyers out.
- Provide a QR code and webpage to accept reservations.
- Create confirmation and reminder messages to be sent out via email.
- Host the meeting or co-host the meeting with you.
Would you like to have Neighborhood Watch on your street?
Click here to email WGNA and they will contact you to work on a date that works well for you, help you get the word out, and be there with you through the whole process including support at the meeting. That's all!

Downtown Willow Glen Improvements
Did you know Willow Glen Business Association (WGBA) manages a Community Benefit and Improvement District (CBID) on and around Lincoln Ave? This year it was extended from Minnesota Ave, all the way down to Coe Ave.
The CBID allows WGBA to act fast and focus hard on issues - rather than waiting for City Hall to get things done to maintain, promote, and improve Downtown Willow Glen:
- Projects that improve district identity
- Streetscape improvements
- Parking order and management
- Marketing and promotions
- Special events
- Support for community events

Maren Sederquist
I began my term as President of the Willow Glen Neighborhood Association (WGNA) in January 2025, after serving on the board for four years. I'm honored to take on this role and excited to continue supporting our incredible neighborhood. I summarize our goals under three pillars: Safety, Beauty, and Community. Through initiatives like neighborhood watch groups, community clean-ups, informative meetings, and fun local events, I aim to bring neighbors together and foster a more connected, resilient Willow Glen.
Volunteering has always been a big part of my life, but I truly found my stride serving on the PTA at my kids’ school. Over the years, I held several leadership positions—including webmaster, financial secretary, membership chair, and president—each focused on expanding engagement and building inclusive participation. As chair of the School Site Councils, I dug deep into district-wide policy and led efforts to enhance safety across all campuses.
Professionally, I’m a Medical Exercise Specialist, helping individuals with health challenges find safe, effective ways to stay active and improve their well-being. I'm also currently pursuing a Master of Public Health to deepen my understanding of community wellness and preventative care, with the goal of broadening my impact.
I love to help people, and get things done—and I look forward to working with all of you to keep Willow Glen thriving.
