Tuesday's City Council Vote

On Aug. 18, 2026, the San José City Council voted 8–3 to approve a framework that allows city planners to develop the rules needed to move forward with implementing a major increase in housing density, including raising the limit from 8 to 32 homes per acre in areas currently zoned for single-family homes.

The specific policies—including the final density limits and what types of housing, such as duplexes, fourplexes and townhomes, will be allowed—will be developed over the next year-plus. The final General Plan changes and zoning rules are expected to come before the City Council for a final vote in December 2027.

Willow Street Bramhall Park Updates

Playground: The teeter-totter repair is complete! The city is awaiting delivery of the poured-in-place resilient surfacing material for near term install.

Turf reduction: In 2023, California enacted AB 1572, which phases out the use of potable drinking water to irrigate “nonfunctional turf” on certain commercial, industrial, institutional and certain multifamily/common-area properties by Jan 1, 2027. San Jose is working on compliance. Come to our meeting September 14 to learn more from Parks staff.

Help needed:We need help spreading some of the new mulch! Can you help us out for an hour or two next Saturday morning (Aug 29)?
Repair Cafe

Repair Cafe August 29!

Once again, with the support of Mulcahy's D6 office, we will be hosting a Repair Cafe at Willow Glen Community Center. 

Come and bring an item you need repaired, so you don't have to toss it and buy a new one!

2-5 pm, no reservation required.

Creative Ambassador

Creative Ambassadors Needed!

Are you a San Jose resident and practicing artist in the performing, visual, literary, and/or media arts with a track record of exhibiting, performing, publishing, or otherwise sharing their artwork with the public?

Each Ambassador will receive a stipend of $12,000 to develop and implement an approved creative expression project within the Ambassador’s term.

 

The role of the Creative Ambassador is to champion the power of creative expression and engage members of the public in finding their own creative voice. The Creative Ambassador’s efforts will seek to recognize, celebrate, and promote diverse creative experiences citywide. 

 

Ambassadors serve a one-year term from January 1st through December 31st, during which they produce a creative project that invites active participation from residents and celebrates the diversity of San Jose's cultural communities.
