re: Public/Private Traffic Calming Measures
Honorable Mayor and Councilmembers,
The Board of the Willow Glen Neighborhood Association (WGNA) has voted unanimously at our last meeting to urge the City to adopt measures to enable Public/Private partnerships for the implementation of traffic-calming measures.
Traffic, especially high-speed cut-through traffic, is one of the biggest issues for the Willow Glen community – indeed, it was the reason residents founded WGNA in the first place 30‑some years ago. Various traffic-calming measures implemented by the City over the years have helped, but additional measures are needed. However, given limited City financial resources, some needed traffic-calming measures have to wait until other funding can be obtained. Thus, WGNA respectfully requests that the City adopt an ordinance that will enable communities to work with the City to jointly fund traffic-calming measures. The actual traffic-calming measures would still need to be approved by the Department of Transportation and meet the same level of community support as before, but if the ordinance is adopted then communities would be able to seek funding from other sources to help augment the City’s funding and help expedite the implementation those measures.
We in the community recognize that we have traffic problems, and we also recognize that the City is limited in what it can do for us. We want to be able to help you help us.
Please contact me at President@wgna.net or 408/742-1798 if I can provide any additional information.
Thank you,
Dr. Lawrence Lowell Ames, WGNA President
