The questions are discussed in detail in the April 2005 Newsletter.

 

Question 1: Where should WGNA concentrate its limited volunteer efforts?  Each voter: split a total of 6 points among the following choices:

 

157    zoning / land-use / traffic & parking

 61     community events (Founders’ Day, Ice Cream Socials, movies)

101    environmental projects (tree plantings, creek restorations, etc.)

 59     historic preservation (save old buildings and oral history)

 27     public art (shows, fund-raisers to sponsor local sculpture, etc.)

 64     community communication (website, eList, bulletin boards (?))

 18     member support services (e.g., after-school classes)

 55     safety resources (coordinate Neighborhood Watches, cleanups)

 

Question 2: How do you feel about the San Jose International Airport?

 76     maintain the curfew: sleep is a “quality of life” issue

 12     support all-night operations: enhances the economy

 

Question 3: How do you feel about a baseball stadium near the Diridon (Cahill) CalTrain station?

 41     favor

 48     oppose

 

Question 4: What would encourage you to shop on Lincoln Avenue more?  Each voter: split a total of 6 points among the following choices:

158    better parking

 45     easier to walk to / less vehicular traffic

 59     better hours

151    choice of shops and services

 59     public amenities (streetscape, kiosks, benches, etc.)

 

Question 5: Lincoln Avenue needs more ___?  Each voter: split a total of 6 points among the following choices:

 53     adult entertainment (nightclubs, coffee shops, microbreweries)

 61     family entertainment (movies, game arcades, kiddie play rooms)

104    family restaurants

 46     fancy (high-end) restaurants

 41     services (banks, legal, repair shops, cleaners, spas)

131    “useful stuff” stores (books, hardware, drugs, groceries”

 39     “fun stuff” stores (curios, boutiques, antiques, collectables)

 

Question 6: When should Lincoln Avenue “close”?

 33     10 PM or earlier

 51     midnight

 12     2 AM

 

Question 7: How do you feel about “Granny Flats”?

 18     none; tear down existing non-compliant dwellings

 31     make existing units legal, but don’t build any more

 46     allow new units in appropriate situations

  3      allow new units anywhere

 

Question 8: How do you feel about the traffic “Level of Service” (LOS) Policy?

 48     keep LOS-D, even if it constricts future development locally

 13     keep LOS-D, even if it means widening streets or rerouting traffic

 19     allow LOS-E at some intersections: some development & congestion
