Public Safety and Code Enforcement

VERY IMPORTANT:  Many city services are complaint driven, so if you do not file report or a complaint to the proper department in sufficient detail so when they go out to  take action they will see the problem,  most likely nothing will happen to solve the problem.  Please leave your name and phone number so they can follow up if they have questions. Many times when WGNA asks a city department if they are aware of a frequently mentioned on the eList continuing neighborhood problem they state this is the first time they have heard about it since they have received no complaints or reports of problems were too vague ( people are speeding on Lincoln Avenue all the time  ) rather than a specific report ( between 7 and 6 am Monday through Friday between Willow and Coe on Lincoln Avenue there are many people speeding at least 10 to 15 mph over the speed limit )  that they can easily take action.   No Complaints in specific detail = No specific Action to sole the problem

Public Safety

San Jose Police Department  http://www.sjpd.org realizes that the term "emergency" can have different meanings to different people. We encourage residents to use their own judgment when determining the nature of their situation. However, when in doubt, we recommend residents call 911.

311 is the Non Emergency phone number - The following are generally examples of  Non Emergency Police matters

-         Crimes Not In Progress, such as : Thefts, Juvenile complaints, Vandalism, Property damage, Violation of restraining order, Fraud, Graffiti, Illegal dumping, and Cashing bad checks

-         Telephone misuse, Call 911 if threatening or involving domestic violence

-         Stolen Vehicles / Abandoned vehicles if suspected stolen

-         Noise disturbances, such as loud music or loud parties

-         Lost or found property

-         Follow-up information on property crimes

Police Department takes complaints on Evenings and Weekends for other city Departments and will send out a Police Officer based on a resident complaint - Unless there are more serious crimes in progress or other higher priority police activities

-         Parking complaints  - Illegal parking, abandoned / inoperable vehicles or disassembled vehicles on public streets / blocking sidewalks or disabled parking ( Planning )

-         Illegal / No Permit Tree Removals / Trimming ( Planning / City Arborist )

-         Barking dogs  / Injured / Lost Animals ( Animal Services )

-         Blocking Public Streets ( Public Works )

-         Commercial construction on weekends or at night without permit ( Planning )
