Dear Larry Moore:
The Willow Glen Neighborhood Association supports a long term photo radar program for neighborhoods. Statistics compiled during the pilot program indicate a drop in the number of drivers who exceeded the speed limits on several Willow Glen streets and a drop in speed related accidents for the area. This is encouraging. With the understanding that our police force needs to be used efficiently, it makes sense to introduce technology wherever plausible. We realize that some citizens complain about being caught on photo radar. The fact that many speeders are from the neighborhood itself reinforces the premise that, similar to Pavlov's dogs, repeat offenders will learn to avoid unpleasant experiences and slow down on streets where NASCOP may appear.
Traffic concerns continue to be at the top of the list for many residents in our community. WGNA appreciates your efforts to address the problem. In addition, we would ask that Willow Street, between Lincoln Avenue and Meridian, be considered as a candidate for the NASCOP program. Residents along Willow Street have voiced their distress over the issue of speeding and reckless driving along this stretch. We believe the street merits attention.
Thank you for including the Willow Glen Neighborhood Association in your effort to reduce speeding through the neighborhoods. If we can be of assistance in the future, please contact me at 294-WGNA.
Sincerely,
Kris Cunningham
WGNA President
