Willow Glen Neighborhood Association Board Meeting
Willow Glen United Methodist Church
October 9, 2002
The meeting was called to order by President Gibbs. Other members present were: Larry Ames, Jim Gardner, Margaret Hardy, Cathy Marshall, Ellen Santomauro, Harold Schapelhouman, Helen Solinski, Jim Spence.
PRESENTATIONS
MILDRED AVENUE: Jim Stull spoke on the issue of the Mildred Avenue proposed subdivision of two lots to build 5 homes. The neighborhood is very concerned about the impact this will have on them as well as the need for rezoning. The owner, Travis Hoopes was present also and he stated that there is no need for rezoning, he will apply for a variance. He also stated that 4 of the proposed homes have been sold even though he has not yet submitted a formal plan to the City; that is expected to happen in February or March. John Gibbs offered to meet with Travis and Jim to try to negotiate a mutually acceptable plan. He offered WGNA’s attendance at the planned meeting of the neighbors and Travis on October 26 at 1588 Cottle Avenue. In addition to WGNA’s assistance, Ken Yeager’s aide, Rick Croscetti is working with group.
FLOOD MAPS: The second presentation was from Gary Jansen. He showed an outdated map of Willow Glen that outlines the flood plain. The map is 20 years old and no longer accurate. He questions the requirement for mandatory flood control insurance since there is little or no danger of flooding in certain areas anymore.
Jim Gardner moved that we invite a representative from the Water District to our meeting to discuss this issue. The motion was seconded and passed.
COALITION FOR SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS: Bill Ellington, representing the Coalition reminded us about the Just Cause proposal that would make it more difficult to evict tenants if it passes. He believes passage will render landlords unable to evict bad tenants with a 30-day notice without tangible proof. This will result in good tenants moving out.
