Board Meeting Minutes – 10/8/03

Minutes: Minutes of September meeting approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Cash on hand – 9/30/03: $10,521.92
Presentations: None
City/County Update: Lee Sturdivant of Sup. Beall’s Office reported that more budget cuts are expected at the County level. Tony Felice of Ken Yeager’s office spoke of the community meetings scheduled to help select the new San Jose Fire and Police chiefs.
Open Forum: Susan Custor spoke of the proposed replacement of the bridge at Willow Glen Way over Guadalupe Creek. She is disturbed about the proposed removal of two Sycamore trees as part of the project. Ken Yeager’s office is in contact with the Water District regarding this project. D. Ferrel brought up the proposed change in San Jose Airport’s policy re plane flights at night. The change would limit flights during the curfew hours according to plane model noise levels rather than weight. On motion by L. Ames and second by E. Santomauro, Helen Solinski was authorized by the Board to write a letter from the WGNA to the city re the new policy.
Committee Reports: Ed Rast reported on the City Council action approving the Tamien project. He indicated it will be a better project based on community input. H. Graham reported on the information available at the San Jose City Planning web site. There was special interest expressed in the "Guide for Old House Preservation" found on the web site. Ellen Santomauro reported on the holiday decoration plans for Lincoln Avenue.
Ongoing Business: A storage locker is available $60 per month for WGNA items currently located in the homes of various Board members. No calls were received on the Hotline. The bulb planting will take place on October 25th at Willow Glen Elementary School. The topic for the November General Membership Meeting was discussed. [It was later decided that the topic would be: "Zoning, planning and how it impacts your quality of life in Willow Glen".] Any newsletter articles need to be submitted by October 15th. There will be no December meeting.
New Business: Jim Spence initiated a discussion regarding the best way to project the position of the WGNA during the decision making process for development projects in Willow Glen.
Announcements: The "Books for Treats" program was mentioned.
