Willow Glen Methodist Church
June 11, 2003
Meeting called to order by newly elected President Helen Solinski.
Board Member Attendees: Margaret Hardy, Charly Luckhardt, Cathy Marshall, Ed Rast, Mary Salcido, Ellen Santomauro, Jim Spence,

Kris Cunningham. Cunningham thanked the Nominating Committee for their time and efforts.
April 9, 2003 meeting minutes approved
Treasurer’s Report: no report
City/County Updates:
- Jim Spence is on the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for the Lincoln Ave Study.
- July 23, 2003 a public hearing is scheduled to discuss the Tamien Place high-density housing project proposed for the Alma Bowl/Sprig Electric site. This area is the city’s crossroads for districts 3, 6, and 7.
- Possible Dog Parks
- Speed bumps, Hamilton Way, Shasta Hanchett, Rosegarden, College Park
- Gas station’s ability to sell liquor
- San Carlos/Bird 123 affordable multifamily detached homes planned on .8 acre
- New staff member, Megan Doyle
Committee Reports:
- Rast on the Tamien issue: Builder Barry Swenson proposes to build a pair of 11-story condominium complexes and 14 townhomes on 3.18 acres of the Alma Bowl/Spring Electric site which will allow up to 260 residential units. The project is part of the City’s long-range plan to develop 140 acres on what has been defined as the Tamien Station Area Specific Plan.
- July 17th a meeting with Swenson, WGNA and North WGNA will be held at the Ernesto Galarza Elementary School to learn more about the project and the city’s initial study on how the project will affect the surrounding communities.
- Rast suggested those in the community and WGNA board interested get training from City of SJ Planning Dept on planning and land use so we will have a seat at the table to negotiations. Training June 18th.
- UNSCC decided to form a Land Use/Planning Committee to establish a pro-active approach with the city governments throughout Santa Clara County for Smart Growth development. The goal is for neighborhoods to be involved in the planning from the inception of land use vision. UNSCC is organizing the first meeting June 19th or June 26th from 6:30 8:00 at UNSCC office. Interested parties should contact UNSCC 408-286-8661.
Old Business:
- Spence on Lincoln Ave: Partnering with Business Association. Folks are happy with what has been accomplished. Want to do more about traffic. New owner at the Quick Stop on the corner of Minnesota and Lincoln.
- Spence attended the Business Association’s special meeting regarding traffic calming and parking. WGBA is looking for a WGNA representative to serve on this committee. Solinski is interested and will make contact with WGBA.
- Longs: car count on Brace report due July 8, 2003
- WGNA is planning for a much smaller Founders' Day Festival this year. There will still be a celebration, but instead of closing the street and having a parade, it will probably take the form of a couple booths at the Farmers' Market or with the Palm Haven Neighborhood & Homes Tour September 6, 2003.
New Business:
- Request made for information about obtaining a storage locker for WGNA assets. Salcido will investigate and report at our next meeting.
- Hardy reported Planning Committee recommended City Council approve 21 detached units on the site of the Jewish Temple at Willow Brae/Willow, 4.0 gross acre site.
Announcements:
- Measure F meeting scheduled for June 12, 2003 in the cafeteria at Willow Glen High from 4:00 to 5:30.
- Tamien Specific Plan meeting scheduled June 23,2003 in the cafeteria at Garza Elementary School. 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Hosted by Councilmember Ken Yeager.
- Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting scheduled for August 26, 2003 at 7:00. No location provided.
