Minutes
Meeting called to order by President John Gibbs. Other members present: L.Ames, S.Fierro,J.Gardner, M.Hardy, P.Love, C.Marshall, E.Santomauro, H.Solinski, J.Spence.
Open Forum: Carol Meyers reported to WGNA that SJUSD is considering redrawing the southern boundary of the school district at Curtner Avenue, enabling them to move the northern boundary out. This would relieve some of the overcrowding at Peter Burnett. There are no "official" current boundaries due to the deseg rule; however, that ends this year. She urged WGNA to write a a letter to the school Board protesting this action and to request notification of the next meeting on this matter.
Ed Rast reported from the Strong Neighborhoods Initiative meeting that redevelopment plans have gone to the state level to propose the building of "transit village" at Tamien station as well as other major transportation hubs. These would be high density, mixed income housing towers. Ed also, in regard to flood insurance, stated that there are flood insurance exemption certificates available through the water district.
Jerry Hunt reported that there is a meeting on the closure of San Jose Hospital March 13,, 6:30pm at Le Petit Trianon.
The minutes from the February meeting were approved.
Treasurer’s report shows income: $142.48; expense: $305.74. Balance: $8,781.10. The issue of our fiscal year running from January-December was raised and reminded us that it is time to present a budget for the new fiscal year. Jim Gardner will have it for next meeting.
There were no committee reports.
Old Business: Lincoln Avenue has new plantings in the boxes along the avenue. Business owners are meeting with City re parking issues.
Founders’ Day 2003: M.Hardy reported that WGNA’s grant will be reviewed with the Arts Commission on Sunday, April 6, at 1:38pm. E.Santomauro will meet with WGBPA on 3/13/03 to discuss collaboration.
Valley Christian traffic issues: J.Spence visited the site and reported that, although there are signs prohibiting left turns out of school lot they are inadequate and therefore, ignored. The painted street barrier is ignored as well.
City updates: Debbie Rocha, Councilman Yaeger’s aide, reported that owners of Albertson’s Shopping Center, Bird and Willow, is requesting rezoning from Neighborhood Pedestrian Commercial to Neighborhood Commercial in order to expand their grocery store. WGNA should become involved when plans are submitted in order to protect surrounding neighborhood.
Announcement: E.Santomauro announced WGES was having fundraiser at Vin Santo, 3/30/03, 4-7pm, $50 pp.
