Dear Demetri,
[Willow Glen Business and Professional Assoc.]
On behalf of the Willow Glen Neighborhood Association, I would like to congratulate you, the Willow Glen Business and Professional Association Board, and the Founders' Day Committee, on a successful 1997 Founders' Day Parade and Street Dance. Because of your hard work and planning, thousands enjoyed a social event which cast a positive light on the core of our community, Lincoln Avenue.
At the August WGNA board meeting, it was requested by the Board that I write a letter to the WGBPA in order to convey our concern for Founders' Day. WGNA had received a number of comments from people in the community which indicated an appreciation for the traditional Founders' Day celebration and those sentiments were shared by many of our boardmembers. An opinion was expressed that the arts and crafts portion of the event in particular, offered an opportunity for persons of all ages and interests to mingle as a community on the Avenue.
The fact that Founders' Day demands a tremendous effort on the part of those who organize and deliver the event was recognized and appreciated. We are also aware that certain costs have increased. Nevertheless, it is difficult to give up a festival which has brought such pleasure to Willow Glen - one which a number of our own members helped to form and develop so many years ago. Therefore, we ask that WGBPA research its options carefully so that this special community celebration can continue to act as the prime unifying force between the neighborhood and the Business District.
The Resident indicated that you plan to begin mapping out Founders' Day 1998 in November of this year. If I or the WGNA board can be of any help, please be sure to contact us.
Sincerely,
Kris Cunningham
WGNA President
