Endorsement Policy

The Willow Glen Neighborhood Association (WGNA) will not take a position, as an organization, to endorse, support, or oppose any candidate for any elected office.  This is both because of IRS regulations and because it may be divisive to the membership and may also complicate future interactions with elected officials.  WGNA may take official positions, if approved by a majority of the Board, to endorse, support, or oppose other ballot measures (bond acts, resolutions, etc.), policies (e.g., general land-use policies), and specific issues (e.g., parcel zoning or land-use issues).  No one is authorized to communicate an official WGNA position without approval of the WGNA Board.

The WGNA Board may delegate to a subcommittee the responsibility for making and communicating official positions, limited to the scope of that subcommittee’s responsibilities.  For example, the Zoning and Land-use Subcommittee can decide, by itself with a majority of the Subcommittee members, to support a specific zoning or land-use matter, and to authorize a speaker on behalf of that issue, but it can not, by itself, decide on issues beyond zoning or land-use.

The President of WGNA is the personification of the WGNA.  It is against the WGNA Endorsement Policy for the WGNA President to publicly endorse, support, or oppose any candidate for elected office, since such an endorsement could be viewed by many as an official WGNA endorsement.  Other current WGNA Boardmembers may make political endorsements, provided that they are made as personal actions and are not attributed by affiliation to WGNA.

The WGNA Endorsement Policy may be amended by the Board as needed.  Changes will be publicized by a notice on the WGNA webpage (www.wgna.net), by eList, and by notice in the next WGNA newsletter.

Adopted by the WGNA Board, March 8, 2006, revised 4/12/06
