Re: Los Gatos Creek
Dear Board of Directors:
The Water District's plan to reduce the flow of water to Los Gatos Creek was brought to the attention of the Willow Glen Neighborhood Association Board on Wednesday, July 9th. A group of citizens, who live near the creek, voiced their concerns at our board meeting and asked for support in sustaining the present creek conditions.
Because of the questions raised, it became clear that more information was needed to understand the situation properly. Therefore, the WGNA Board motioned to send a letter to the Santa Clara Water District asking for written clarification explaining 1) why the decision to reduce the flow was made, 2) what information/data was used, and 3) what process and/or steps were followed in arriving at the decision.
The Neighborhood Association recognizes the Los Gatos Creek as an asset to our community. The stream is a natural habitat in the center of an established neighborhood and has brought years of peaceful pleasure to those who live nearby. Soon, with the the completion of the Los Gatos Creek Trail, even more of our citizens will be able to enjoy its beauty. WGNA understands that environmental issues can be complex but encourages careful thought, open discussion, and public input on this matter.
WGNA has appreciated working closely with the Water District on the Los Gatos Creek Trail Restoration Project and acknowledges the Water District's efforts to address and to clarify this issue for us.
Sincerely,
Kris Cunningham, President
