Relay For Life - May 14th and 15th, 2005
Relay for Life is a fun-filled overnight event
designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of
the American Cancer Society. During the event on May 14th and 15th, teams of
all ages will gather at Willow Glen High School and take turns walking or
running laps. Each team will keep at least one team member on the track at all
times, while the rest of the team has a great time visiting, enjoying the
entertainment and events, and celebrating their successful fundraising!
Teams collect funds in advance of the event by asking friends and family for
donations, having garage sales, car washes, and more – this is easy, as nearly
everyone has been touched by cancer, so most people are happy to contribute.
Be part of Relay For Life!
Be a Team Captain
Lead a team of 15 or so friends and family and be part of Relay! Call Trenton
Turner, ACS Special Events Coordinator, at 408-688-0108 to get a package of
materials to get you started. You'll have a support system up to and during the
event, helping with fundraising ideas, team building, and answering any
questions. If you don’t want to be a Captain, but would like to participate,
please call – we can add you to an existing team, put you on the planning
committee, or give you a job for the day of the event!
Are you a Cancer Survivor?
There is a special event at Relay for cancer survivors - they walk the first
lap of the relay, then have a special breakfast, get a t-shirt and other
goodies, and are generally fawned over. Anyone is welcome to participate - call
so we can get you the survivor form and more information.
Luminaria Ceremony
We also have a special ceremony at dusk where candles are lit in memory of
those who have passed or those who have survived. It's quite emotional and a
very important part of the event. If anyone you know would like a luminaria
placed at the event in someone's name, we can also provide these forms. The
suggested donation for this is $10, but any amount is welcome.
Relay for Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be
forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day,
cancer will be eliminated. Don’t miss out - be a part of this great community
event!
